Eli Rose celebrates Pride!
IDT is proud to introduce our current board members as we celebrate Pride 2025:
Eli Rose (he/him) is serving as the IDT Board Secretary
What does Pride mean to you?
To me, Pride is all about celebration and remembrance. I celebrate who I am as a trans person in small ways every day, but Pride season gives me a heightened opportunity to share in collective trans and queer joy. At the same time, Pride season serves as a reminder of those who came before us and those we have lost. We remember the defiance, resilience, and simple existence of queer folks that have been scrubbed from the history books. We have always been here and we always will be, and that fact fills me with Pride.
How does Indy Drag Theatre connect you to community?
Indy Drag Theatre has connected me to the largest community of queer folks and theatre nerds that I have ever experienced. I found IDT after three long years of law school, most of which was spent online due to COVID. It was a very isolating experience. Since coming to IDT, I have found myself surrounded by queer and straight people from all walks of life who rally together to put on a great show. From early mornings at bootcamp to long nights of tech week and two-show days, these people are always worth showing up for. I found a home and a family with IDT that I never thought possible.
What is an IDT moment that filled you with Pride?
One IDT moment that filled me with Pride was seeing “Sweeney Todd” as an audience member. I spent all of 2024 heavily involved in each production. “Sweeney” was the first time I took a step back since coming to IDT. Experiencing the show from an outside perspective, getting lost in the spectacle without a thought about whatever was going on behind the scenes, it was truly magical to just see IDT in action doing what we do best-- put on a great show.
What do you want everyone to keep in mind this Pride season?
This Pride season, I hope that we all keep each other in mind. Look out for each other. Remind your friends to hydrate and put on sunscreen. Remind your friends that you love them. Show up for each other, have fun, and love out loud.
