A stage for everyone

Indy Drag Theatre was conceived between Drew Bryson (Blair St. Clair) and Alyjah Duff (April Rosé) with the idea of merging theatre and drag in Indianapolis. That idea has grown into this wonderful organization. It is our hope to bring Hoosiers together by offering a safe space to become immersed in queer culture for both artists and audiences.

Drag is an artform that has always been a part of theatre, and allows people to play characters of any gender. We honor that tradition with what we do today, creating opportunities for for all types of gender expression in any role.  There is drag in everyone, and drag is for everyone.

Under the costuming and wigs, we are Hoosiers with stories to share. This stage gives us the space to share those stories with you. This story is told through lip-synched performance, which may be something new to theatre-goers, but is part of the tradition of drag performance.

We hope that you enjoy this unique theatrical experience, and we invite you to be part of our community both on and off stage.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Indy Drag Theatre honors the incredible artists who
graced our stage with their talent, passion, and light.

While we miss them here, their voices still echo, their stories still inspire, and their spirit forever lives in our hearts.

Drew (Drucilla) Demora

Tristyn St. Clair

We love you. Always and forever.

About a year ago, Indy Drag Theatre’s Executive team pitched the biggest risk in IDT history: a move from our beloved home stage on Mass Ave to the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre. Admittedly, as a risk-averse Board President and loyal subject to our reign in the local arts and entertainment scene, I was skeptical. What would become of our company and community? How could we honor our humble history and embrace a ‘sky-is-the-limit’ approach to our own growth? What does my finance guy say about all this?!

As any President should do, I consulted the experts and conferred with the constituents. It was clear that IDT’s rhinestoned ambitions had grown, and we needed new partnerships to realize our vision. I signed on the dotted line and triggered the cascade of unglamorous operational adjustments that come with contracts. We posted the press release. The new era had begun.

In the 1500s, chroniclers wrote one-sided histories at the behest of a King. Anne Boleyn didn’t livestream her take on TikTok and there were no brand ambassadors to soften Katherine Howard’s condemnation. Even so, having every modern tool at your fingertips doesn’t ensure storied success. In fact, we often leverage these tools against the user, fueling confusion and anger instead of truth and grace. The proverbial beheading is still, always, a possibility.

If you were with us in the earliest years, you may have caught the touring cast of SIS, inspired by the Broadway musical but written as a jukebox cabaret with original voiceovers. It was experimental, unprecedented, and our sound engineer’s nightmare. But despite its unique deviations from typical retellings, it was also one of the countless examples of IDT’s pursuit to humanize those who would be forgotten – to write in the stories so many of us long to (and need to!) see on stage. And maybe these are exactly the types of risks we elected IDT to take. It’s in our reign. It’s in our blood.

Indy Drag Theatre is more than a stage. We’re more than a single show or a sound bite. We’re a network of creatives, bound to a queer experience and committed to telling our stories – even, and in spite of, our increasing mainstream visibility and success. If the Phoenix Theatre is our throne, our bodies are nobility. Everyone is royalty.

I am honored to steward the transition to the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre alongside this royal court of audiences and artists, and thank you all for supporting SIX: A Drag Parody Musical.

Fiercely,

Max Maneater
2026 IDT Board President
